Had A Long Day? Already A Long Week?

Work. It is my source of income that allows me to buy shoes, purses, go on trips,  and enjoy great food. Oh yes and pay those invoices that are due monthly…bills.

After a long day at work, we are all looking for a way to relax and get rid of stress. I know that it can be hard to go home and unwind in 5 minutes or less. You come through the door and still feel like you are in G-O mode and so you rush around the house to cook, eat, shower, etc in record time. There are many ways to relax after work and unwind from your long days.

Many of the ways that I am talking about I’m sure that you already do. The problem is that they are not the center of your attention and so the results aren’t top-notch.

SHOWER

I walk through the door, put my stuff down, and go straight to the shower. Taking a hot shower washes away all the stress from my body and helps clear my mind. I feel like I am instantly getting rid of everything at the office that includes the long meetings, germs from others, and the things to do list I created in my mind on the way home.

SILENCE

When you go home try sitting in complete silence. Sit on your couch don’t say a word, don’t turn the tv on or talk to anyone.

I can sit on my couch in complete silence and become completely relaxed instantly.

COMFY CLOTHES

If you don’t like to shower as soon as you get home take off your work clothes. There are a few times when I walk in the house and don’t shower immediately and comfy clothes are my next move.

When you are home and still wearing your work clothes, mentally you can’t relax.

READING

For those of us who like to read, a good book is a good way to rid of stress.

COOKING

I know for some people cooking can create more stress, but I think if you want to improve your culinary skills and you enjoy cooking, it is a great way to relax.

PAMPER YOURSELF

Massage, hair salon, and nail salon are some ways to bring relaxation.  If you are unable to relax by yourself, allow someone to take care of it for you.

MUSIC

I love music and I listen to it every chance I get.

Music of your choice can be soothing and rid of any stress that you may have. It’s even better when you have a dance party.

SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Family and friends can be amazing when they are always there for you. Hanging out with family and friends is a guaranteed way to feel better.

TAKE A NAP

When you take a nap set a timer. A nap after work has to be the shortest nap that you ever take in life and I’m talking no more than 10 minutes. These are called power naps because those 7-10 minutes you are laying down should refresh you for the evening.

I’ll go ahead and tell you it’s hard for me because I like to sleep and I don’t even try because my naps have always been at least 2 hours.

The next time you feel like you have had a long day or having a long week, try any of the above and really focus on being in that moment.
